Swiggy’s Cloud kitchen: 15 Lakh Orders , 7000 More Jobs

Swiggy first launched in 2017 as Swiggy Access service which creates a medium of delivering foods from restaurants, cuisines, and kitchens within the city.

According to the Swiggy CEO, the company had invested more than Rs. 175 crore into its business and it is planning to invest more Rs. 75 crore by March 2020.

In terms of jobs, Swiggy had created over 8000 new in-house jobs that come under its cloud kitchen product and planning to create more than 7,000 jobs.

Along with that, Swiggy is also investing in ” Pods ” to rectify the supply gaps in the country.

At present, Swiggy delivers within the 4 Kilometer zone. According to Bhatia, 15-20% of overall order volumes come from Access kitchens.

We look at areas where there is a lot of demand, but supply isn’t matching … and this is where we use our data sciences. The ethos of Swiggy Access is to enable restaurant partners to go into new geographies, getting them new suppliers, and also providing infrastructure (kitchens) along with it,” added Bhatia in an interview.

Swiggy has more than 250 unique restaurant brands on its Access kitchens currently and Swiggy is planning to expand more.

Does it show any difference in dine-in Restaurants

For every restaurant brand, they will pay anywhere between 10-30% in commissions per order to food aggregators like Swiggy and Zomato.

Even Zomato is trying to implement up the cloud kitchens models mostly in smaller cities.

At present, 90% of India’s food services are occurring with the Market is dine-in and only 8% is with the delivery which is estimated at a sales of Rs.12,140 Crore.

Food delivery companies are heavily invested in Cloud kitchens which will, in turn, return them more business in the coming years.
